KNYSNA NEWS - Two Knysna Primary School teachers have recently shown that their talents aren't limited to a blackboard, by managing to earn spots in respective regional netball and rugby teams.
Petroné Bouwer, the sport coordinator at Knysna Primary School was selected as a member of the Eden Senior Netball Team which will compete in the Spar National Netball Championships in Johannesburg at the University of Johannesburg in August.
They recently competed in the Western Cape tournament in Hermanus during the weekend of 12 to 14 April and won two out of their four matches, against Western Province and Boland.
Juandre Digue, also a teacher at Knysna Primary School, was selected as a member of the SWD Eagles Rugby team. The SWD Eagles will compete in the Supersport Rugby Challenge competition and will compete against all the rugby unions in the country including teams from Namibia and Zimbabwe. Their first game came against Western Province on Sunday 28 April, which they lost 62-7. They then followed that up with a 59-31 loss to Eastern Province Elephants, but managed to clinch a brilliant victory against Zimbabwe, beating them 31-30. In the second part of the season, they will compete in the Currie Cup First Division which the SWD Eagles won last year.
