KNYSNA NEWS - With Christmas right around the corner, the 2021 festive season is well and truly upon us. In keeping with tradition and in the essence of the Christmas spirit, Knysna Mayor Levael Davis turned on the town's Christmas lights on Wednesday 15 December.
Traditionally, the office of the mayor hosts the Annual Street Market and Lights Switch-on where local vendors showcase their arts and crafts, food and beverages and share the festive-cheer.
However, according to municipal spokesperson Christopher Bezuidenhoudt, this could not be accommodated this year due to growing concerns over the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.
Nonetheless, Davis, accompanied by councillor Susan Campbell, carried out the ceremonial switching on of the lights in Main Road (N2).
There are also lights in the Long Street to Gray Street block of Waterfront Drive for the first time, and now Knysna is bright and ready for the festive season.
