PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - While times are still uncertain following the outbreak of Covid-19 and subsequent lockdown measures put in place, organisers of the annual Plett Rage student festival are hopeful that the popular event, which attracts thousands of school leavers to the town after writing their final exams, will go ahead this year.
“With the country in Phase 3, we have high hopes that we will be able to trade as planned. Nonetheless, we have started innovative plans to ensure that the class of 2020 get to experience a Plett Rage they deserve,” organisers said in a statement.
They added that should the final exam dates impact on the original dates of Plett Rage 2020, scheduled to take place from 27 November to 5 December, they would be able to adjust. “We have already started the engagement process with relevant Plettenberg Bay accommodation suppliers to assist with the potential changes.”
The organisers added that Bitou Municipality, Plettenberg Bay Tourism and the residents of Plett are supportive of the hosting of Plett Rage 2020 in whatever manner or form.
“If and should we need to move, we will be able to facilitate a festival. Currently, nothing has been confirmed, however we are very aware of the potential for change. Should and if there be one, we will put our plan of action into place and provide an experience for the class of 2020.”
The festival, which is set to hosts its 21st edition this year, is not only a week-long music and entertainment festival for youngsters, but contributes massively to the town's economic wellbeing. Last year, between 5 000 and 6 000 school leavers descended on Plett, and boosted the local economy with between R70- and R90-million.
