SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - Drugs worth an estimated street value of R150 000 and a firearm were confiscated in two separate incidents last week.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, members of the Public Order Policing unit (Pops) and the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting team reacted on information about an illegal firearm at a house in Nelson Mandela Boulevard in Thembalethu, George at 01:00 on Thursday 17 December.
"Upon searching the premises they found a revolver and five rounds of ammunition inside the residence. The police confiscated these items and arrested a 29-year old suspect on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition," said Spies.
The previous day a 55-year old woman was arrested after drugs worth R150 000 were found in her possession on the N12 between George and Oudtshoorn.
"Vigilant members of the Attaqua K9 unit stopped a minibus taxi that was en route to Oudtshoorn on Tuesday 15 December. A search resulted in the discovery of two bags of tik. The woman was subsequently arrested," said Spies.

Sassa cards confiscated at spaza shop
Police also confiscated twenty Sassa cards at a spaza shop in Matjiesfontein near Laingsburg on Wednesday 16 December, after the police received information about illegal activities.
"Members attached to the Langeberg K9 and Laingsburg police responded to the information when they conducted a search at a spaza shop where they found the Sassa cards with pin codes in a plastic bag under the counter of the shop. Further investigation on site indicated that these cards were linked to pin codes of social grant recipients," said Spies.
Two suspects were arrested on the spot. Both face charges relating to the contravention of the National Credit Act.
