GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - For this year's Mandela Day, Sanparks along with other stakeholders organised various drives along the Garden Route to make a difference in people's lives.
People & Conservation (P&C) officer for the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park, Phumla Nyathikazi said they wanted to impact communities in Goudveld and Rheenendal who live close to the park.
"So a team from Goudveld headed to Rheenendal Primary to work on the food garden that is part of the school's feeding scheme. Teams from Beervlei (also part of the forest areas of Wilderness) put effort into refurbishing the Sonneblom Creche, and staff in Farleigh headed to Redland Primary to paint the school."
Teams in the Knysna section did the same for creches in the Bongani township and Diepwalle (Knysna forest).
Knysna P&C officer Ndumi Mgwenya said they partnered with Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching for a career expo in Hornlee.

"We loved the idea of helping young people choose the right careers as a way of curbing poverty in future. Education is important to secure the future," said Mgwenya.
Staff from Sanparks also joined Oakhurst Insurance in George and other stakeholders to pack 10 000 food parcels for impoverished communities in George.
