KNYSNA NEWS - SANParks recently bid farewell to one of their terrestrial scientists, Dr Wessel Vermeulen who had worked for Bosbou and SANParks for 36 years as a terrestrial scientist.
Speaking at his farewell organized by scientists at Jubilee Creekpicnic site on Friday, the 15 March Dr Stef Freitag-Ronaldson said Wessel got very nervous when he heard about the farewell because of how shy he is.
She said he is completing his projects and documenting them. She also said he was an asset for SANParks scientists and management of the Garden Route National Park.
“Wessel has also mentored a lot of young terrestrial scientists,” said Freitag-Ronaldson.
According to the parks communications official Nandi Mgwadlamba, his knowledge of trees and plants is ‘amazing’.
Park manager for the Garden Route National Park, Paddy Gordon said Wessel will be missed for his knowledge and contribution to management decisions and wished him well for his future endeavor.
What’s next for Vermeulen one might ask, well he will be pursuing his passion of taking care of stray animals.
