PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - More than 2,500 people entered last year’s Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge presented by Discovery, which was held in Plettenberg Bay over two days on 27 and 28 December 2018.
A total of nine events were hosted at Plett Central Beach and the beautiful Kurland Estate, including a beach and road run, a surfski race, a one-mile ocean swim, a fun beach walk, two trail runs, a mountain bike race and the ever-popular Kids of Steel obstacle course event.
A new event, the Splash & Dash proved to be great fun with surfski paddlers competing in heats over a distance of 500m, with a short beach run and paddle.

Top sportsmen and women from around the country who are ambassadors for the Sabrina Love Foundation were there to challenge runners, cyclists and swimmers. Olympic swimmer Chad Ho was beaten for the first time in 12 years in the ocean swim by teenager Henre Louw.
Trail runner Chantel Nienaber was unfortunately suffering from flu and had to withdraw from the beach and road run, which was won by Xterra champion Bradley Weiss. Weiss also came third in the mountain bike race which was won by cycling professional Rogan Smart. Ambassador Dawid Mocke and his brother Samuel won the doubles surfski race.
Owner and founder of the Sabrina Love Foundation, Suzy Lubner said that she was extraordinarily grateful to everyone who turned out to participate in the various events.
“On the first day the weather was not great but despite the rain we still had plenty of people on the beach running, paddling, walking and swimming. The second day at Kurland was absolutely stunning and we were just overwhelmed by all the support and love shown by thousands of people for our charity.”
All money raised from entries goes directly to the Sabrina Love Foundation which cares for children with special needs in the Bitou area of the Garden Route.
