KNYSNA NEWS - Residents of Milkwood Drive in Upper Old Place, Knysna have expressed frustration at piles of sand and rubble dumped alongside the road, effectively blocking one lane and creating an unsightly environment.
A homeowner who lives directly in front of the rubble, Jeanette Greenway, said it creates a hazardous environment which has on more than one occasion resulted in a "near-accident".
“The rubble has been lying here since probably December,” she said, adding that she has notified the municipality of the problem on numerous occasions.
The municipality responded saying that their technical team conducted a site visit at Milkwood Drive and found construction materials dumped outside two homes.
“Building material is lying on the road reserve, and a hoarding fee is paid for the use of the road reserve and the builder or property owner is expected to remove the material once construction has been completed. We are also aware of three large patches that need to be resurfaced. These patches are as a result of water pipe breaks and will be resurfaced in dry conditions,” they stated, adding that the team removes rubble from the road surface after water pipe breaks as soon as an area is dry.
The house in question, which is being rebuilt following the June 2017 fires, is no longer under construction according to neighbours, but the building materials remain on the road. Attempts to identify the homeowner at the time of going to print were unsuccessful.
