KNYSNA NEWS - The annual Rotary Splash festival took place at the Waterfront and the Knysna yacht club at the end of December last year.
According to organisers the weather on Thursday 28 December, despite being very windy, was kind and record crowds attended, some participating in the lagoon mile challenge, many enjoying the now famous duck race, and some enjoying the canoe polo matches.
The festival takes place every year as a "fun-raiser" to create some awareness about Rotary, and to raise funds for their beneficiaries. Safe Swimming and Stationary Drive are just two of the campaigns that will benefit from the funds raised.
Despite the number of swimmers being a few less than the previous year, the lagoon mile event was very exciting with swimmers ranging from very young to quite mature.
As always, the duck race proved to be very exciting, with 1 000 ducks "taking to the water" under the main bridge at the Waterfront. There were two heats and the 20 winners from each heat made it to the finals. The canoe polo also produced a great deal of spectator entertainment.
Once again, the Rotary club of Knysna would like to thank all those involved in putting this fun day together and helping to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
"A very special thanks to the executive mayor of Knysna Eleanor Bouw-Spies, and the Knysna Municipality, as well as Knysna Tourism for their support of the festival. Without them we would not have been so successful," said organizer of the Splash Committee Andrew Finn.
