KNYSNA NEWS - After months and months of planning, fundraising and preparation, the 2023 Rotary Dent project finally got underway at the Knysna Provincial Hospital this week.
There are five international dental professionals - four from USA and one from Finland - leading the treatment portion of the project, all under the umbrella of the international charity Med Arm in Arm.
According to its website, Med Arm in Arm is "a group of caring dental professionals that perform on-site clinical expeditions to serve several places around the globe to better the overall health of children in poorer areas of the world through restorative dental services".
Before Rotary Dent 2023 could come to fruition, a host of fundraising exercises was required, ranging from concerts to quiz nights.
The Rotary Dent initiative is one of the key projects among Knysna Rotary's many community health initiatives, and will see hundreds of local schoolchildren receive much-needed dental treatment. Be it fillings or extractions, the children will be A-for-away after this week.
The Rotary Dent project started on Monday 17 April and wrapped up yesterday, Thursday 20 April.
Keep an eye on next week's Knysna-Plett Herald for more details about the outcome of the project.
