Update
KNYSNA NEWS - The mystery surrounding four seemingly well-looked after horses roaming around the Simola and Blaricum Heights areas of Knysna continues.
Since a post regarding the horses was uploaded to Facebook on 8 February, the Knysna-Plett Herald has received many clues regarding their possible owners, but to date nobody has come forward to report the horses have been reunited with said owners.
First, information received indicated the horses possibly belonged to a principal of a primary school in Knysna – it is unknown which one.
This theory has since been debunked.
Annerie Graham, managing member of Garden Route Horse Welfare / Happy Hooves, posted that these horses belonged to residents of White Location and Concordia.
”They have always roamed free. Damaged fences, following the Knysna fires, have simply expanded their roaming ground.
"Despite roaming free, the horses are in a remarkably good condition. None are underweight or visibly injured, thus there is no obvious welfare concern rendering the hands of local welfare organisations tied,” she said.
According to Graham it is only upon instruction from municipal law enforcement that her organisation may get involved to intervene with the horses.
A query regarding these specific horses and also the by-laws that govern such animals was sent to the Knysna municipality earlier today.
At the time of this post appearing no feedback was yet received.
It was shortly after Graham’s post though, on Knysna-Plett Herald’s website, that another reader stated the horses did not belong to anyone in White location or Concordia.
“I live in Blaricum Heights. We found the owner of the horses, they are not township horses.
"They come from a smallholding near Green Pastures. The owner has been contacted and the horses will be returned to his property,” read the post.
No clue was given as to who the owner in question is.
The Knysna-Plett Herald has reached out to this reader for more details.
As soon as further details are received, residents will be updated as to the situation of the horses.
