They complete application forms, take ID numbers and take a picture of the homeowner. Once the homeowner makes the R350 payment, they say that they will bring the receipt when they install the meter.
Needless to say these people never return to the homeowner.
Please note that the Knysna Municipality has in fact commenced with a prepayment meter conversion programme. But be aware of the following:
- The prepayment meter installation is free of charge.
- The contractors used to install the meters all have identification tags.
- The prepayment meter is installed in the municipal kiosk and not inside the house and the customer is handed a keypad only, which is used for communication with the meter inside the locked kiosk.
- Eskom is not permitted to install their prepayment meters in Knysna's municipal district.
