Update
PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - While beaches have been reopened after last week's fatal shark incident in Plettenberg Bay, authorities are urging beachgoers to take heed of warnings as shark activity remains high. Last week Tuesday, local businessman Bruce Wolov succumbed to injuries after a run-in with a shark along Sanctuary Beach.
Beaches are currently flying shark alarm flags to warn beachgoers to exercise caution when entering the water.
Beach authorities have urged swimmers to avoid the Robberg Beach area and surrounds as great white sharks are spotted in the area daily.
They are not only spotted from boats or aircraft, but can be seen patrolling the coast from land along the Robberg Nature Reserve.
A local skipper also reported that there was another close encounter along Sanctuary Beach over the weekend. A woman was apparently swimming and the skipper witnessed a shark approaching. The woman left the water none the wiser.
Beach authorities have urged beach-goers to alert swimmers in the vicinity of Robberg beaches about the situation.
Every year, throughout the winter months, several great white sharks congregate along the Plett coastline as conditions are optimal for them during this period.
By September they seem to move on. It is believed that about five great white sharks are making their way up and down the town's coastline at the moment.
