PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Two robbery suspects in Plettenberg Bay were arrested after the swift reaction of their victims.
Local police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse said the incident happened at the Shell Ultra City in Plettenberg Bay at about 00:15 on Tuesday 21 August.
“The complainant parked his vehicle at the Ultra City and left his brother in the vehicle while he went to the bathroom,” Pieterse said.
While in the toilet, the complainant only closed the bathroom door halfway and noticed a man, wearing a camouflage jacket, entering the bathroom. “The suspect walked directly to him and pointed a firearm at him.”
Pieterse said the victim called out to his brother, but that a second suspect then entered. The second suspect removed the victim’s rings and necklace before running away. Pieterse said it is believed that the jewellery was worth R10 000.
“The victim’s brother heard his call for help and grabbed one of the suspects. The complainant warned his brother that the suspect had a gun and urged him to hold onto his assailant tightly. The complainant searched the suspect and found the firearm on him. They took him to the Ultra City shop where they waited for police.”
Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) operations head Otto Olivier said after following up information gathered, the suspect, who fled the scene, was also apprehended. He allegedly pointed out a location where some of the stolen goods had been stashed.
Pieterse said the suspects are 28 and 37 years old and will appear in the magistrate’s court this week.
