PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Bitou Young Pirates made history this Sunday when they were crowned the Woza Woza Season 5 champions, after defeating Tsitsikamma's Mandela Stars 4-0 at Kwanokuthula Stadium.
The Young Pirates reached the final after beating the Flying Eagles 3-2 on penalties following a 0-0 semi-final draw. The Mandela Stars defeated Knysna's Abahlobo FC 3-2 on penalties.
The final began at a high pace, but the first half ended 0-0. The Pirates took control after the break, with Thami Daweti (40) opening the scoring. Zukisani Mdyesha doubled the lead after a pinpoint cross from the right.
Shafwaan de Bruin brought the score to 3-0 after beating Mandela Stars goalkeeper Thabiso Radebe, before winger Iyazi Kemese sealed the victory with the fourth goal.
Goalkeeper Mihlali Ziwani was named the performer of the tournament for his acrobatic saves.
The Bitou Young Pirates received R45 000 in prize money, while the Mandela Stars finished as the runners-up.
Head coach Whitey Lamani said the team had trained for weeks and was prepared. He thanked the supporters and players and urged them to keep working hard.
