PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The man accused of murdering 63-year-old Schoongezigt resident, Penelope Cumming, briefly appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court today, Thursday February 1.
The matter was however postponed February 21 for a formal bail application.
The accused, who cannot be named until he has pleaded as he has also now been charged with rape, has applied for legal aid.
Cumming's naked and bruised body was found on the floor of her Schoongezigt Country Estate home in Piesang Valley Road on Monday January 29.
Police believe she may have been strangled and raped. Her Volvo SUV was also reported missing.
Her partially burnt-out vehicle was found later that day in Nekkies in Knysna and the suspect in the murder was arrested on Tuesday January 30 near a school in Kwanokuthula in Plett.
