PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Despite the tourism industry coming to standstill as a result of the nationwide lockdown, Plettenberg Bay received another feather in its decorated tourism cap with the announcement over the weekend that The Plettenberg Hotel was added to a prestigious hotel list.
Small Luxury Hotels of the World showcases just over 500 hotels in more than 90 countries in a curated collection of “anti-chain and anti-same” hotels.
Recently the organisation added two new hotels to this list including The Plettenberg Hotel on the town’s beachfront.
The other addition is The Marine in Hermanus. Both hotels form part of the Liz McGrath Collection.
The Plettenberg Hotel first opened its doors in 1988 after it was transformed by hotelier McGrath from a derelict one-star hotel into a five-star establishment. In 1996 the hotel was expanded after McGrath purchased another property opposite the hotel. This addition was later called the “Blue Wing”.
