PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The fourth Plett Food and Film Festival has been labelled a massive success, with delectable cuisine and wine, great entertainment and an all-round good time taking centre stage.
The event ended on a high note at the White House Theatre on July 12, when more than a hundred food and film aficionados enjoyed the Hollywood classic Casablanca over what can only be described as an exquisite Moroccan feast.
And working behind the scenes to take festinos on a journey to this North African wonderland was SA celebrity chef Jenny Morris and her team of kitchen aces.
“I haven’t been in Plettenberg Bay in quite some time, so it is wonderful to be back,” Morris said while giving guests a run-through of the evening’s menu.
Morris lived up to her name as SA's “Giggling Gourmet” when she had the crowd in stitches with her sharp humour.
“Morocco is such a diverse country and the people there are very in tune with what [ingredients] are in season. They get excited about this.”
On the menu was a range of starters, enjoyed “family style” by giving festivalgoers an opportunity to interact over the food. This was followed by a delicious Moroccan soup and a mouthwatering chicken tagine.
The evening, however, kicked off with guests getting a taste of some of Plettenberg Bay’s bubblies and belly dancing, and ended off with acclaimed musician Martin Wolfaardt tickling the ivories and some Beefeater gin cocktails.
The festival – a first of its kind in Africa – showcases world-class films and explores food and everything that goes along with it. The films are preceded or followed by either a gourmet culinary feast linked to the film or culinary presentations by food specialists.
“Three films from three different eras, all set against a backdrop of sociopolitical conflict, provided much food for thought this year. The determination, resilience and triumph of the human spirit was celebrated with excellent food, wine and stirring live performances. We hope the evenings lingered long after the credits rolled,” said event director Cindy Wilson-Trollip.
The festival was sponsored by Plett Tourism, provincial tourism body Wesgro and Checkers, and the opening night was cosponsored by Pam Golding Properties Plettenberg Bay and Knysna.
