PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay police arrested a man allegedly transporting drugs and confiscated dagga with a street value of about R800 000 on Sunday 13 May.
Police spokesman Captain Marlene Pieterse said police officers received information to on the lookout for a truck in the Plettenberg Bay area transporting dagga from the Eastern Cape.
"While patrolling the area, police officials noticed a white Nissan bakkie with tinted windows and a GP registration number at the Shell Ultra City off the N2 in Plett," Pieterse said.
She added they approached the driver and asked for his driver's licence. "The driver could not produce the licence. At that stage a strange smell was detected by the police officials and the driver confronted the man about it."
Pieterse said the driver then confessed that he was transporting dagga for someone.
After searching the vehicle, police found 17 bags full of dagga. The bags weighed just short of 530kg and the drugs worth about R800 000.
The suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs.
Pieterse added that the previous day four more suspects, believed to have been linked to the man arrested in Plett, were arrested at the Tstisikamma Toll Plaza by the Humansdorp Stock Theft and Endangered Species Unit .
She added that arrest took place at about 04:00 an officers found 17 bags of dagga, weighing about 500kg and worth about R500 000.
