KNYSNA NEWS - As the weather continues to get warmer, the chances of encountering snakes are increasing.
Thus, it is important that people are aware of the dangers snakes pose and how to get help if something goes wrong.
In light of this, Pledge Nature Reserve and Eden Empathy Initiative have organised a "Knysna Snake Awareness Talk" set to take place this Saturday, 10 December, at 09:00.
It will be led by Nick Kolberg, a Garden Route resident who is passionate about wildlife and has been teaching snake awareness and snake handling throughout South Africa for 20 years. To learn more and book your spot, you can contact Albert de Villiers on 073 997 4720.
The talk is expected to take about two hours and will cover all you need to know, including:
- Which snakes are indigenous to the area
- How to identify them
- Where you are likely to find them
- How they behave and why
- Venom types and bite treatment
- What to do when meeting a snake face to face
- When and how to get help
