Sinethemba Mdeyi, principal and founder of the school serving the Enthembeni location, is proud to say it took a team effort to "build something out of nothing".
"We started five years ago in my shack with five children and today we have Rotary, ePap and the Knysna Education Trust (KET) on baord." Gugulethu playschool is still privately owned. Mdeyi says the Knysna community has kept her on her feet and "the children safe and happy". Learners of Oakhill School recently helped her to beautify the school.
"The kids came in, painted the walls, helped with the garden and showered us with love." Annie Davis, a KET volunteer, said the school has a lot to be proud of.
"Mostly, it's the teachers. Their hearts are in this and you can see how children flourish when they are around people who really care."

Grade R learners and their teacher Rite Ntuntwana are pleased with the wall that was painted by Oakhill learners recently.
