KNYSNA NEWS - Percy Mdala High Shool’s pass rate for matriculants has improved from last year's 66.3% to 70.9%, and the school boasts 10 distinctions.
One particular learner who did exceptionally well is Nandipha Jebese who scooped five distinctions, in English (85%), life sciences (90%), isiXhosa (85%), life orientation (82%) and in geography (83%).
Jebese has been accepted at Wits to study a bachelor of science degree and has been offered an entrance scholarship by the university, but she is still keeping her options open while waiting for the University of Cape Town to accept her to study medicine. "I've always been fascinated by medicine so I'm hoping that UCT will accept me, if not I'll still be happy to go to Wits."
The 18-year-old says she didn't expect to do so well. "The results really surprised me, I am so glad all my hard work paid off. If it wasn't for the support I got from all my teachers who were always on my case about studying and the amazing support from my parents especially my dad, I don't think I would've brought my A-game – because of them I just had to make them proud."
Other distinction holders from the school include Nandipha Tobi with 82% in life orientation, and isiXhosa distinction holders are Kamvelihle Duna (80%), Nolitha Lusithi (81%), Zuko Kedama (82%), and Samkelo Dayimani (82%).
Principal Nicholas Njozela said he is pleased with the results and that the learners gave it their best.
"It is a huge improvement from last year's matric results, there were challenges, of course, but they made it nevertheless. We are proud."
