KNYSNA NEWS - After years of parkrun taking place every single week, like thousands upon thousands countrywide, you're probably missing your Saturday-morning routine.
But, say the fundis, there are ways you can recreate the parkrun experience while staying safe in the comfort of your own home.
Keep calm and warm up
If you're struggling to hit your old daily step targets because your commute now involves walking from bed to the kitchen table, it can be easy to become lethargic and inactive. Fear not, for every Sunday morning on the parkrun YouTube channel, they host the parkrun family warm-up.
How many laps?
For those who want to still get their run, space at home can be an issue – you might only have your living room, patio or small garden. Well, this didn't seem to stop a parkrunner only known as Matt, who still wanted to get his 5km parkrun ticked off for the week and completed his first unofficial 45 243 552 432-laps around his garden.
Get crafty
For fun, some parkrunners have come up with play-courses using Lego blocks and jelly babies to recreate their home parkruns.
Have a coffee and a chat
As parkrunners always say, parkrun was never really about the run – it was always about the post-run coffee and the social side, being with friends in the outdoors. You may not be able to meet up and walk, jog, run and volunteer together for the foreseeable future, but you can still put the kettle on and have a coffee and chat thanks to the wonders of technology.
Go back to school – parkrun style
Parkrun may be out for the time being, but the School of parkrun is here. Organisers have just launched the School of parkrun as a way to set daily parkrun-themed tasks for children of all ages and the whole family to try together. Every weekday morning they post a new video with your challenge for the day, covering English, Maths, Science, Geography, and Art. – Sourced, parkrun.com
