PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS & VIDEO - Plett's new NSRI rescue craft, The Courtenay Rescue, has had two baptisms of fire, even before being officially blessed.
On Saturday 13 August, the Courtenay was involved in the rescue of a father and son who had been washed off the rocks by a freak wave and seriously injured at Robberg.
She was again called to action to retrieve a woman of over 70 who braved the Robberg Nature Reserve Hike on Wednesday 24 August in berg wind conditions and temperatures exceeding 35ºC. She was suffering heat exhaustion.
Both rescues involved the Plett NSRI Station 14.
The father and son who were injured on 13 August were evacuated in relays by helicopter from the Fountain Hut at Robberg Point, to the car park where further medical treatment was administered.
The Courtenay Rescue is set for its official blessing on 1 October.
Both underwent surgery in hospital for serious injuries and according to Craig Lambinon of the NSRI are "well on the road to recovery".
Lambinon said the family requested privacy during the healing period.
The Courtenay Rescue, which was sponsored by the Courtenay Trust, is set for its official blessing on 1 October.
