PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The New Horizons Library celebrated the elderly in its community during a high tea party on Thursday 6 October.
Among those in attendance was Ward 4 councillor and Bitou speaker Claude Terblanche, who thanked the elderly residents for the role they played in society in their golden years.
The event was driven by the Bitou library sections and New Horizons elderly women.
Terblanche emphasised that respect goes a long way in life and is "the cornerstone to building an ideal society". He encouraged everyone to go out and show love and respect to the elderly.
He also encouraged the elderly women of the community not to stop their activities and daily exercise programmes as it keeps them in good shape and healthy.
"You should not let your age prevent you from joining fitness clubs and participating in the Golden Games Tournaments," Terblanche said. The guest of honour at the event was Gwendoline Majavie of the Western Cape Department of Health, who shared her knowledge about staying healthy in the senior years.
The women also enjoyed eats, drinks and pampering. The staff of the New Horizon Library said they appreciated the privilege of hosting their community's senior citizens and treating them.
