KNYSNA NEWS - The man who was caught on the video during an altercation between himself and a traffic official on Knysna's Main Road/N2 last month briefly appeared in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 8 May following his arrest.
Alroy Kerspey is facing charges of malicious damage to property, threatening an officer and common assault.
The video circulated on social media across the country within minutes after the incident on 5 April.
The case was postponed to 8 June for further investigation.
Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the case was opened on the day of the incident.
“There was also a case of crimen injuria that was opened by the officer. An investigation into the matter was finalised and a decision not to prosecute was made,” added Spies.
Kerspey and his wife Mercia (who took the video) also sought legal counsel in light of the fact that Kerspey was allegedly unlawfully arrested.
They are still not talking to the media on advice from their legal counsel.
The traffic official has been placed on special leave following the incident and the municipality is still investigating the matter.
