GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Caretakers and toddlers at the Klein Handjies Crèche in Uniondale were pleasantly surprised on Friday 20 January when they received a visit from Garden Route District Municipality’s (GRDM) officials who donated 20 mattresses to the crèche.
Crèche principal Chanell Jumat thanked GRDM chief fire officer Deon Stoffels and senior firefighter and acting station officer for fire safety and training Devonia Cupido, who delivered the items.
Jumat said the day care facility has many needs.
"We are extremely thankful for the GRDM who reached out to us. We want each child to enjoy a safe and comfortable environment where they receive the care they deserve. There are times when I feel that we are the forgotten early childhood development (ECD) facility, so today I am very grateful for these essentials."
The GRDM officials also used the opportunity to offer a refresher session to the toddlers and caretakers on fire safety.
Kleine Handjies Crèche was established in 2018 and accommodates 50 toddlers. Although the facility has the capacity to accommodate 90 children, a long list of requirements must still be addressed. These include meals, toiletries, stationery, tables and chairs.
To donate to this end, the public may contact Chanell Jumat on 066 3381 748.
