KNYSNA NEWS - Rising from the trauma of past months the community of Knysna ensured that the Hospice Maison Market, held on 29 and 30 September, exceeded all expectations.
Market organiser and member of the Knysna Sedgefield Hospice local events team Laura Colarossi says she believed that this year's market would be a much smaller event, coming as it did so soon after the fires. However, the support from the Knysna community was amazing and generous.
Steadily "gently used treasures", kindly donated by many in and around Knysna, started to accumulate. The arrival of a truckload of beautiful furniture the day before the sale was the cherry on the top!
Members of the events team and a small group of talented volunteers who willingly devoted time and energy worked tirelessly during the week – unpacking, sorting, cleaning, displaying and finally pricing.
And on Friday morning, with the wares beautifully displayed, the fifth Maison Market opened its doors to the public, many of whom had been queuing for over an hour.
On both days most shoppers seemed to find something that they either wanted or needed and afterwards many stopped for a welcome cup of tea and cake.
Funds raised from this market will enable Knysna Sedgefield Hospice to continue its very necessary and important work in the area spanning Wilderness to Harkerville, and the support from the community was truly heart-warming and greatly appreciated.
