Held at the Knysna Quays Waterfront on Wednesday, July 3 as part of the Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival, eager competitors contended with speed, focus and striking outfits to prove who’s best. The wine was sponsored by Van Loveren Wine Estate for the seventh year and a wine tasting was also hosted during the event.
The event comprised of two teams competing against each other, requiring them to open a bottle of Van Loveren wine, pour two glasses and run a relay race with their tray, glasses and wine to their team member who had to repeat the process. The teams were judged on opening the wine, speed, spillage and costume.
Team Conrad Pezula's Yves Mabolongo and Charl Julies took the title, while Team Tapas and Oysters' Zama Pantsi and Desmond Tumelo were runners-up.
The best dressed category went to The Drydock Food Company which was represented by Xolile Hamza and Zimkita Sigwela. The prize for the most spillage went to The Protea Hotel Knysna Quays represented by Salinge Pakamile and Lee-Ann Goliath.
Money from the entries and funds collected during the event will be used to purchase much needed supplies for Knysna Animal Welfare Society.
The Protea Hotel Knysna Quays thanks all sponsors who made the event possible.
