Update
KNYSNA NEWS - The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident that claimed the life of well-known Afrikaans singer Jacques de Coning recently, is Knysna-based clinical psychologist Dr Michelle Schlodder, who is recovering after she was critically injured.
Schlodder, who lives on a farm in Kraaibosch near George and is a clinical psychologist at the Knysna Private Nursing Practice, went to Port Elizabeth to collect her visa for an overseas trip she had been planning.
On her way home on Sunday morning 9 June, on the R72 between Kenton-on-Sea and Alexandria in the Eastern Cape, Schlodder's vehicle collided with De Coning's vehicle sometime around 10:30. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
The collision was so severe that De Coning succumbed to his injuries, while Schlodder was fortunate enough to escape with her life – albeit with critical injuries.
She suffered two fractures to her right femur and was transported to Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth to undergo a major operation.
Schlodder was discharged on Friday 14 June to continue her recovery and rehabilitation at home.
All that the shaken doctor would say when speaking to Knysna-Plett Herald this week was that she was doing "as well as can be expected".
The details of the accident have been confirmed by Port Alfred police cluster spokesperson Captain Mali Govender.
