KNYSNA NEWS - Last week, Oakhill's preschool children went on an outing to deliver an assortment of colourful and cuddly teddy bears for babies and children.
The Little Oaks preschool each year runs a drive encouraging all Oakhill moms, grannies, extended family members and friends to knit teddy bears that will ultimately be donated to the charity Babies in Need.
This is a local foundation run solely by volunteers with the aim of providing basic requirements to moms and babies in the children's ward at Knysna Provincial Hospital.
Every year, volunteers Mary-Anne Jeffrey and Mary-Anne Farnham have traditionally gone to Little Oaks to collect the toys, but this year the children enjoyed the thrill of taking the teddies on the school bus to the collection point, Vineyard Church, where they were treated to a warm welcome and delicious tea.
The volunteers explained to the children how much the toys mean to the new moms and babies at the hospital, and the Little Oakhillians returned to school in high spirits having experienced and internalised the joy of giving.
