KNYSNA NEWS - The otherwise mostly drab Knysna town hall was a picture of elegance and beauty on Saturday 1 September when DA ladies from all 11 wards organised a Spring Day Tea.
About 100 ladies attended and they were addressed by Mossel Bay councillor Venolea Fortuin, who delivered a beautiful keynote address about the importance of women uniting to assist each other in overcoming their challenges.
This was in line with the theme of the day: "As women united we are stronger than our challenges".
A number of local ladies spoke about projects that they run in their wards under challenging circumstances and with limited means, e.g. soup kitchens, crèches, community projects and volunteerism.
The programme also included a motivational speech by a young lady who, after matriculating, started her working life preparing fish and salads in the kitchen at a restaurant at the Waterfront in 1997 and who is now a personal assistant to one of the directors at a major bank in Knysna.
There were three prizes each for the best-decorated tables and for the ladies who dressed best to represent spring. Many lucky draw prizes were handed out. Entertainment came in the form of Charmaine from Image Divine, who gave up time from her busy schedule to run a Fun Wardrobe Session.
A voluntary cash donation for the family of slain councillor Victor Molosi was also collected from the ladies present.
