KNYSNA NEWS - Another popular fixture on the Knysna events calendar is making its much-anticipated return with the Knysna Motor Show revving up its engines ahead of its return this weekend.
For the decade before the Covid-19 pandemic, the motor show attracted both local car enthusiasts and those from far and wide to Knysna to see the magnificent motoring machinery.
Over the years the spectacle steadily attracted more of the most exciting classic and collectible cars and motorcycles in South Africa.
Classic vehicles are primarily about evoking emotion and visitors seek an experience of the senses - see, touch, hear, smell and a taste for style.
For older folk it's often about nostalgia, but for the youngsters it will be excitement and passion - the exhilaration of "live and real".
The return
With the live-streaming of such an intimate event not an option, the Knysna Motor Show will reclaim its place among the country's choice automotive events this weekend.
It will take place this Sunday, 1 May, at Thesen Harbour Town (not at the Knysna High School sports fields where it was held in the past).
The commercial aspect of Thesen Island is a fitting location with the town's signature Heads to the south and forested Tsitsikama Mountains to the north.
The exhibition will display 120 to 150 high-quality vehicles and in keeping with Covid-19 regulations, a maximum of 2 000 people will be allowed at any given time.
For affordability and accessibility, an entrance fee of R30 will be charged for adults with accompanying children entering for free.
Thesen Harbour Town offers many options for food and beverages within easy reach.
Cars and coffee always make for an enjoyable, energising experience, so coffee will be available throughout the day.
What to look out for
Special features of the show include a display of Austin Healey models that will be participating in the 2022 Austin Healey Club National Tour in the Southern Cape, while the Simola Hillclimb display will feature cars competing in Classic Car Friday.
A number of South African production, special and replica builds will form an important display at the show. These include an Opel Kadett Superboss by SentiMETAL and a pair of modern Shelby Mustangs from Shelby SA, supported by classic versions of the marque and the 1967 Shelby GT500 from Hi-Tech Automotive.
An AC Zagato and Rossion Q1 supercars plus the Daytona Coupe, all designed and built by Hi-Tech in Port Elizabeth, will be a feature of the show.
Cobra replicas from around the country and a classic GSM Dart will add to the awe-inspiring line-up.
In addition to the British, German and Italian marques, a few American muscle cars will be on display alongside local Knysna Low Rider Custom Cars and a number of modern classics that have been customised or race-prepared by their young owners.
With the Simola Hillclimb this year returning to its traditional slot in early May, the Knysna Motor Show will once more serve as the perfect precursor to the Hillclimb.
It will not only whet your motoring appetite, but also satisfy the automotive desire that burns within your own internal combustion engine.
