KNYSNA NEWS - The Department of Health is evaluating hospitals to see what routine services can be resumed.
Regional spokes-person for the department Nadia Ferreira told Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) they have noted a steady decline in admissions to Knysna Hospital.
"Knysna Hospital currently has 12 patients who are either being investigated for Covid-19, or are confirmed to be positive. All our district hospitals have seen a decrease in admissions and none are under pressure," she said.
Ferreira said routine operations at district hospitals are among the services that may be allowed again.
Life Healthcare West Coast regional manager Riaan Croucamp confirmed that Life Knysna Private Hospital is also admitting patients for necessary and elective surgeries, while treating Covid-19 patients in separate areas where the necessary infection prevention and NICD guidelines are maintained.
"Doctors are responsible for managing the criteria and indications for admission of their patients and we continue to review the situation at each of our hospitals in order to assess the risks, as well as to identify and share best practice in the interests of doctors, patients, our staff and supporting service personnel," said Croucamp.
"While we are encouraged by the declining numbers, we continue to appeal to the public to follow all necessary precautionary measures in the fight against the spread of Covid-19."
