KNYSNA NEWS - After almost 40 years operating as a charitable organisation, the Knysna Disaster Fund NPO says it is on the brink of its own disaster. The fund's secretary, Jill Morse, said that unless new premises are found for their work, the organisation is doomed to close at the end of June.
The two rooms that Child Welfare has made available for them for many years, are now needed for additional staff intake.
"Our search for alternative accommodation depends on a charitable benefactor coming forward, as our annual income/operating expenses of R13 000 preclude us from the rental market," said Morse.
She explained that about 50 domestic fires are recorded each year, affecting around 50 families/150 people.
"We make available to them a pack of clothing for each family member, kitchenware, toiletries and bedding. Without these essential items, their lives would be impossible." In addition, said Morse, they have assisted the Victim Support Unit for rape victims at the Knysna police for many years.
"Who is going to do this important work if Knysna Disaster Fund is no longer there?"
Morse asked. "And so we appeal for help in finding two or three rooms available to us in or near Knysna town."
