KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Sector 4 Community Forum members Lwando Zakhe and Ndoyi Majoba briefly appeared at the local magistrate's court on Monday 6 August after they were arrested on 6 May on charges of kidnap and assault.
The condition of the pair’s release on bail was to refrain from communicating with the witnesses involved in the case.
The suspects allege to have been wrongfully arrested, but Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said it is alleged that they abducted an 11-year-old victim and assaulted him while they were travelling in a motor vehicle.
He said an investigation into this matter led to the arrest of both suspects.
“The fact that this matter is currently at court is an indication of a prima facie case against the suspects. They were therefore not wrongfully arrested," he said.
He added that numerous meetings were held in Sector 4 to address the allegations of vigilantism and an appeal was made to the community to refrain from taking the law into their hands.
