KNYSNA NEWS - A group of insurance providers operating locally recently did their part in supporting the rebuild of the fire stricken Knysna by handing over a cheque in the amount of R50 000 to the Knysna municipality.
According to Zenith “For the Accomplished” Insurance chief executive Lourens Kirsten, his company is a prominent insurance underwriting manager that has been active in insuring the assets of the financially accomplished and also those of pensioners in the Garden Route, with a number of insurers, for many years.
These insurers include local companies Knysna Insurance Brokers, headed by Cliff Ryan and Garden Route Insurance Brokers, headed by Dan Payton.
“The scale of destruction and more importantly the devastation brought upon the already poor (in Knysna) prompted Zenith to raise funds for disaster relief in Knysna. We are very thankful to a number of entities from all over the country who contributed to the fund being The Western National Insurance Company, In2 Insurance Brokers, The Slamet Family, Strongarm Plumbing, Gunton Assessing, Consumer Assure Insurance Brokers, Phix, Metal Used Spares and Fred’s Auto Panel, to mention just a few,” said Kirsten.
He added that thanks should also go to the local supporting brokers and their staff in Knysna, specifically Garden Route Insurance Brokers and Knysna Insurance Brokers, who Kirsten said have worked tirelessly to process the avalanche of claims and who themselves have endured loss and tremendous emotional stress in assisting the victims of this 1 in a 100 year event.
At the handing over of the cheque on July 31 at Knysna municipality council chambers, executive mayor Eleanore Bouw-Spies thanked the group of insurers from the “bottom of my heart”.
“My decision on how to spend the donation came after I had the privilege of attending the induction of the Lions Club’s new president. They discussed what they would be doing regarding further relief efforts, and I decided to give this donation to them,” said Spies.
In closing Kirsten said how humbled those involved were to have assisted “in this small manner”, and shared their willingness to assist further should the need arise.
