WESTERN CAPE NEWS - The deployment of police on highways, byways and secondary roads to curb the influx of illicit goods, unlicensed firearms and drugs into the province once again yielded success with the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm along the N1 near Laingsburg.
On Tuesday 28 November at about 09:30 Laingsburg police members conducted patrols along the N1 and pulled over a minibus taxi.
Upon searching the vehicle they found an unlicensed firearm and ammunition in the luggage of a passenger on board.
The police arrested the man and confiscated a 9mm pistol as well as 16 rounds of ammunition.
The 24-year-old suspect remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in the Laingsburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday 30 November on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The police management of the Western Cape had commended the members for their efforts which ensured that the firearm is removed from society.
