KNYSNA NEWS - The dilapidated state of pathways, sidewalks and walkways in Knysna is making some residents hot under the collar for not only making their lives more difficult but for portraying an unacceptable image to tourists who visit the town.

Two such locals, Jeff Milachowski and Felix Meyburgh, feel they have exhausted their routes of recourse, and say the municipality is ignoring the situation.

According to Milachowski, there are three paths in Knysna that need particular attention. “The path along the N2 at the corner of Bokmakierie (Old Place) is flooded after even a small rain and people have to climb through the fence or walk in mud. There are people living in the drainage ditch along the N2 and path near the same turn-off, and at the top of Assegaai the path goes over a small stream, but once again when it rains there are problems,” he says.

Meyburgh’s beef is with the CBD. He points to the 100m strip of pavement in Gray Street south that represents the main pedestrian route from the Waterfront to Main Street, where "hundreds of tourists" walk every day.

“Its condition in unacceptable, especially as the width of 1m causes pedestrians in busy periods to step off into the street to overtake or pass each other,” he says, adding that he has brought the state of the road to the municipality's attention almost a year ago but that no action was taken.

Queries were sent to Knysna Municipality, which acknowledged receipt but stated it could not provide answers before Knysna-Plett Herald's print deadline.
