KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna Sedgefield Hospice had an exciting day on Friday 18 January when their quarterly Donor Club draw coincided with the 80th birthday of a well-respected and trusted member of their "family", making for a day of fun and celebration.
The club, which is registered with the National Lotteries Board, currently has 137 members participating in the quarterly draw. According to Hospice, there are members who elect to be 100% donors and who do not participate in the draw.
"Each and every one of our growing number of generous individuals provide a regular flow of funding to help us provide care and support for our patients and their families," said a Hospice spokesperson.
The draw is based on a system whereby participants buy a unit for R50 per month, or R600 for the year, of which 50% goes towards the quarterly draw and 50% towards the charity organisation's running costs. The latter 50% qualifies the donor club member for a tax exemption certificate (18A) which is issued annually.
First prize for this draw wasR9 525 (Mrs H. O'Grady ), second prize was R3 968.75 (Matthew Sompani) and third prize was R2 381.25 (Don Bodley). "Thank you to all who have entries in our draw. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!" the spokesperson said.
To celebrate her 80th birthday, a former palliative care nurse with Hospice, Sister Jenny Shaw, assisted with the draw on her special day after sharing a cup of tea and slice of cake with her former colleagues.
"She is a loved member of our Knysna Sedgefield Hospice family and has a generosity of spirit that extended from her patients to their family and even their pets," the spokesperson added.
The next draw is on 16 April. If residents would like to register as a Donor Club member, contact Mariana de Lange on 044 384 0593 or email her at hospice@hospiceknysna.org.za
