KNYSNA NEWS - Hornlee residents have been plagued with water interruptions since Wednesday 2 August.
A large number of residents have been reported as saying that the water supply has been off for a large portion of the day only for the water supply to be turned back on again in the evening.
The unhappy residents face a lot of uncertainty at the moment as they are not sure when the water supply will resume without interruption.
The municipality has deployed water trucks to the areas affected by the water interruption, however residents have reported that the water provided by the trucks is not clean and that there have been instances of the water trucks not showing up to the areas that they have been dispatched to.
“Many people in the area are complaining about the fact that they are without water for a week now. We are without clean drinking water, water to wash and cook and the residents have had enough of it. The municipality has said that they will send water trucks but the trucks have either not reached certain areas or we don’t get clean water from them," says Penny Knoesen, a resident of Hornlee.
Statements released by Knysna Municipality state that the ongoing water interruptions have been due to low water levels at the Bigai Reservoir, which is responsible for providing water to Hornlee.
“The storage levels at the Bigai reservoir are currently rising steadily. Once the reservoir reaches optimal levels, we will commence pumping water into the Sunridge and Noetzie reservoirs. However, we would like to draw your attention to the crucial role of responsible water consumption during this period. Excessive water usage by users already connected has a significant impact on the decline of reservoir levels, particularly those that supply the Sunridge area,” said Municipal Manager, Ombali Sebola, in a recent statement.
