KNYSNA NEWS - With a known history of criticising Knysna Municipality over service delivery, Knysna United recently commended the municipality for delivering services to Hornlee residents.
Knysna United chair Ralph Stander told Knysna-Plett Herald that members are very excited that things are happening in Hornlee.
"The people have moved into houses, others are about to move in. Others have been proactive and have 'plakked' (squatted) and are now in their own homes. Others have received plots and would be able to build their own houses," he said.
He was happy that those who've been proactive by squatting are now receiving basic services.
"Street lights have been put in place and basic services are installed. All these services have not come without a price or struggle. The saying goes: no pain, no gain. The community, under the leadership of Knysna United, fought many battles and are now the victors," Stander said.
He denounced political parties that, according to him, are going around claiming that they were responsible for these improvements.
"We all know those are blatant lies. All the political parties inside the Knysna Municipality have been fighting against the people of Hornlee, but they are the same parties who are now claiming victories," he said.
Stander saluted the people of Hornlee and said their opinion remains that Hornlee deserves better.
"We also salute everyone who played an active role in the journey of liberating Hornlee. We salute organisations like Knysna United and the Hornlee Housing Committee. There are others like the Hornlee Crime Prevention and Changes of Knysna. Thank you for all your hard work and sacrifice. We call on the community to get involved in all these good causes. The least you can do is to attend meetings," he said.
