SEDGEFIELD NEWS - A vast number of people, businesses and organisations from Sedgefield were honoured at the inaugural Celebrate Sedgefield awards evening, held on Friday 10 November.
The special event was held at the Red Roof Lapa at Scarab Village, and was organised by the Sedgefield Ratepayers and Residents Association (SRRA). The awards evening was the brainchild of chairperson Dr Andy Brough, who conceptualised the idea after an overseas trip.
"I thought what a great idea it would be to bring this concept to Sedgefield, to celebrate the people and organisations who make our town so special," Brough said.
And so he set out to bring the idea to life in the Slow Town by bringing it to his colleagues at the SRRA. After months and months of hard work and planning their idea came to fruition, but all that was needed was the nominees.
"We asked the residents of Sedgefield to nominate who they felt needed to be recognised for their phenomenal work, and the response was great. Everyone nominated tonight is a winner, as they all make Sedgefield a better place to be," Brough explained.
At its core, the Celebrate Sedgefield Awards seeks to acknowledge and reward those who have gone above and beyond to make Sedgefield a town of choice for permanent residence, holidaying, tourism and business.

Thus, with the winners decided upon by the court of public opinion, a date was set for them to be recognised for their efforts.
On Friday 10 November people gathered at the Red Roof Lapa for an evening of festivities, great food and drink.
Each winner was called forward by master of ceremonies Nicky Franceschi to receive their certificate and special seahorse trophy designed by Sedgefield local Duncan Jamu, a resident artist of the Scarab Village.
It was a fun evening for all in attendance, and Brough expressed great thanks to their sponsors, Harcourts and Re/Max Coastal, that made the evening possible.
"The response to our inaugural awards has been really great, and we'd like to make this an annual occurrence," Brough said.
