KNYSNA NEWS - All hiking trails are open in all three sections of the Garden Route National Park.
The trails were closed as a precautionary measure to protect hikers from rivers and streams that were overflowing in some sections of the Park.
In Knysna, rain was measured at 30mm in Diepwalle and 20,5 in Harkerville over the long weekend. Megan Taplin, Park Manager for Knysna confirmed all trails in Knysna are open.
Hiking trails into the mystical Knysna Forest include Green flag accredited trails including the Elephant trails and Perdekop (,5km). The Black elephant trail is 9km, the White trail-8km and the Red another 7km.
Other trails in the area include the Terblanche trail (6,5km) in Gouna. Forest excursion nearby include the King Edward Big tree (600 year old Outeniqua Yellowood tree) and the ‘Rooted in Time’ self-drive route which takes visitors to 10 culturally significant areas in the Knysna forest.
Trails in Harkerville are also open including the scenic Kranshoek trail (9km) re-routed after the 2017 fires. The Garden of Eden also in Harkerville provides access to an easy walk on a boardwalk.
Harkerville is also home to the country’s best mountain biking trails.
