KNYSNA NEWS - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has taken over the investigation into a case of suspected drug trafficking that involves nearly R200 000's worth of marijuana.
The suspect, Thembinkosi Ndwandwa (36), was arrested in the Knysna CBD on Monday 13 September by members of the Tsitsikamma K-9 unit.
According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani, the police noticed two males leaving a courier services company on Market Street carrying boxes and approached them. "They both fled on foot and he [a member of the unit] managed to apprehend one of them," Hani said.
The suspect was carrying one of the boxes. "The box was opened and packets of cannabis in different sizes were found. His cellphone was also seized for further investigation." According to Hani the cannabis had an estimated street value of R178 000, and not R252 000 as previously stated by police.
