PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers provided relief for the more than 80 households that lost everything when a fire swept through Qolweni in Plettenberg Bay during the early hours of 29 May.
On Wednesday 2 June, Gift of the Givers' Mario Ferreira and his team visited the devastated area to provide affected families with mattresses, toiletries, blankets, groceries and other items.
Ward 3 Councillor Xola Matyila said he was overjoyed by the intervention from the organisation and thanked the team for the "massive contribution" they had made in improving the lives of those who had lost everything.
Locals also jumped in immediately after the disaster to organise relief for the affected families. Matyila encouraged the Bitou community to remain united and to always express humanity towards others like they have been doing since the fires broke out.
"We also use the opportunity to pass a word of appreciation to all other organisations, institutions, and individuals that went out of their way to support the residents of the Qolweni community throughout this ordeal. Plettenberg Bay is a town where its people care for one another," he said.
