KNYSNA NEWS - An uncovered storm water drainage hole in Spring Street, on the way to Woodmill Lane Shopping Centre, poses a hazard to pedestrians and motorists.
The hole was first discovered by passers-by earlier this week, Monday 12 February, and is about half a metre wide and about just as deep.
Concerned pedestrians told the Knysna-Plett Herald the hole could be a danger to members of the public who use the street on almost a daily basis.
“If someone is not watching the ground carefully and does not notice this hole just on the side of the pavement, they could fall into it possibly even breaking a leg.
"Even more serious if a little child had to fall into it,” said the person who did not want to be named.
On inspection it is evident that should a motorist, who fails to notice the hole, could badly damage their vehicle if they parked on it and a wheel were to go down the hole.
This is not the first time Spring Street has been criticised.
Members of the public previously expressed concern regarding this street which is scruffy, dirty and smelly.
There are traces of urine and faeces against some of the walls and on one glass window it looks as though it has been vomited on.
The Knysna municipality was informed of the hazard on Monday this week.
As soon as the dangerous situation is attended to we will report on it.
