According to sergeant Chris Spies, Knysna police communications official, no cases with regards to the use of fireworks were opened during this period.
“Members of the police did however confiscate fireworks being sold without the necessary permit at a shop in Nelson Street, Knysna, but no arrests were made,” Spies said.
Annelien Kitley, general manager of the Knysna Animal Welfare Society (KAWS), says they know of one dog that ran away and was run over by a vehicle and died during this period.
A query regarding the compliance of the community and the illegal fireworks notice issued by the Knysna Municipality was sent to the municipality at short notice. No answer has yet been received.
