Aged 12 to 15 years old, these youngsters took part in the South African National Equestrian School Association (SANESA) league earlier this month, and were awarded colours for, amongst others, showjumping, dressage, equitation and performance riding.
These ambitious stars are all students at Rheenendal-based DA Equestrian School, which is run by Danielle Peters.
The national championships, which take place in Johannesburg from September 21 to 24, are the next stage in these riders' journey. The cost of the trip, which covers entrance fees, the price of Western Province uniforms as well as stabling and transport of riders' horses, will amount to a figure between R12 000 and R15 000 (that is, per rider), says parent Di Taylor.
"The horses," Taylor adds, "will leave on September 17, allowing them a few days to get used to their new environment."
In order to ensure their safety and wellbeing, horses travel by trailer with companies that specialise in cross-country transport for such animals.
After a successful fundraiser in May, which took place in the form of a teen dance party, a committee made up of riders' parents organised a similar party for this coming Friday, June 21 at Knysna Angling Club in order to finance the dream trip up to Johannesburg. Among the attractions, which will include food stalls and laser light effects, is young DJ Dru and his dubstep tunes. DJ Dru is a student at Oakhill School.
Learners in grades 6 to 9 are welcome. Entrance per child will be R50. For more information, contact Di Taylor at 084 843 3236.
