KNYSNA NEWS - The Southern Cape and SA bridge unions invited Tim Cope to teach players from all over the Southern Cape in Knysna over three sessions last weekend.
Tim is an international grandmaster of bridge, he has represented South Africa many times in world bridge competitions over the last 25 years. His team of six came fourth in the world in the famous Bermuda Bowl.
The lessons were held at the Knysna Angling Club and were well attended by players from George, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
Participants could play normal hands and Tim would show them what the right bidding, defence and declarer play should have been.
On Saturday afternoon the emphasis was on the most common conventions such as Stayman, transfers and "checkback" Stayman, three "musts" in any bridge player's arsenal of weapons. The cherry on top was the "counting" seminar. Count your points, count partner's points and count shape. It's easy… as the highest number is never more than 13!
Tim lives and teaches in Cape Town but also gives online lessons on "BBO" and Skype. Anybody wanting to know more about bridge in our area or how to get hold of bridge teachers please contact Heidi at heidi@hidealoerie.co.za or visit www.bridgewebs.com/knysna.
